This Hoya Multi-Coated Neutral Density (ND) Filter is an essential accessory for any photographer's camera bag. ND filters reduce the amount of visible light that enters the lens, allowing the user to utilize wider apertures or slower shutter speeds, particularly in bright conditions.

ND filters work especially well for portraits by allowing the photographer to reduce the depth of field, producing pleasant background blur while keeping the subject in sharp focus. These filters are also often used to emphasize movement by permitting slow shutter speeds in bright light, giving life to photos that would otherwise look frozen in time.

This particular filter (HMC) is multi-coated to minimize reflection on the filter surface, which reduces flare and ghosting, and produces sharp contrast and well-balanced color. An ND8 filter reduces the amount of light by 3 stops.

Examples of use::

• Shooting water. With a filter you can extend the exposure time of 1/125s for example, 1/15s without changing other conditions of exposure. Then we get beautiful, silky blur flowing river, the waves on the sea or a waterfall
• Photography of architecture. This is often used to gray filter. Lengthen the exposure time so that more details will be recorded.
  The pictures often prevent passing the person appearing as a fuzzy spot in the picture. A simple trick with a long exposure time and the filter will "ghosts" disappear
• Portrait and macro. The bright light is often the case that automation greatly closes the aperture, which unnecessarily increases the depth of field.
  To focus attention on a particular point, we assume density filter, which will increase the aperture, and gain a little depth of field
• Working with flash. Lamp power can often be reduced manually, but can not always be this close-ups. ND filter will help overcome this barrier

Thread on both sides of the filter allows the use of regular lens cap or tighten the next filter. HMC has a series of protective coatings on both sides of the glass.
